Here at MOOR Catholic School education balances individual
achievement with a concern for others. From Pre-K through 8th grade, our
service learning program encourages students to be more Christ like
and be compassionate citizens. With service learning integrated into
the curriculum, students gain understanding of the world, engage in
active volunteerism, and reflect carefully on their experience. Our
program nurtures an appreciation for the many ways a person can serve
the School and the greater community.
Lower School (Pre-K – 4th grade)
Service opportunities are included throughout the Lower School
curriculum and classrooms. The Student Council takes a leadership role
in carrying out projects such as food, school supplies, toiletry and
book drives and fundraisers. MOOR’s youngest students have supported
organizations such as:
- Ronald McDonald House
- Pennies for Peace
- St. Luke’s Rehabilitation
- Heartland Rehabilitation
Middle School (5th – 7th grade)
Middle School students must perform a minimum of 10 hours of
community service each academic year. They are encouraged to volunteer
outside of school. Incorporated into their school final exam for
Religion, students will be required to write a narrative essay about
their service learning experiences. The essay will be become an item in
their student permanent file. Some examples of service that students
can perform are:
- performing at nursing homes or day care centers
- cleaning up local parks
- Assisting during PALS or school events (carnival, car washes, etc)
From time to time the school will offer All-School Service Events which may include:
- Assistance with All-School Drives
- Monthly Services —for students and their families which will be announced during morning prayers
Graduating Class (8th Graders Only)
Eighth grade students are required to perform 30 hours of volunteer
service before graduation. Students Organized for Service such as
Student Government or Honors Club, as well as, the Athletics Department
and a number of individuals manage many fundraising events and
community service projects throughout the year.
